Outside the town of Vik, on Iceland's southern coast, large basalt cliffs dominate the coastline. Just offshore three eroded black basalt columns, called the Reynisdrangar, rise from the sea. Legend has it that these rocks are three trolls, caught out too late and frozen in place by the early morning sunlight.
